Apex Comics 1.6.0: several Komga libraries, one NAS profile
Hey everyone,
1.6.0 is rolling out on Google Play. If you use Komga on a home server, this update is for you: you can finally keep Comics, Manga, Kids, and other server libraries inside one Apex library profile — with tabs — instead of creating a separate Apex library (and re-entering credentials) for each shelf.
Komga multi-library (Premium)
One Komga server, one entry in the Apex library switcher. Inside that profile, each linked Komga library gets its own tab above your grid.
- Free: connect as before — pick one Komga library per server profile
- Premium: select several libraries at setup (checkboxes) or later in Settings → Libraries → Manage Komga libraries
- Reorder tabs from settings; downloads and reading progress behave like a single Apex library
- Same credentials stored once per profile — no more duplicate NAS setups
Existing setups with multiple Apex profiles pointing at the same Komga URL still work; this release does not force a merge. The new model is for new connections or when you edit a server profile.
New library on the server?
When Komga gains a new library, Apex can show a discreet banner: Add to link it and scan it — no silent mass import. Premium only; free users keep a single linked library.
Library header stats scope
The reading overview card at the top of the library screen now follows the library (and Komga tab) you are browsing by default — comics read, in progress, hours, and streaks for that shelf only.
Prefer a big-picture view? In Settings → General → Library header stats, switch to All libraries to aggregate across every Apex library. The full Stats screen is unchanged and still has its own library filter.
Two-page spread in the reader
On phones and especially tablets, you can read with one page or two pages side by side — like a physical spread.
- Open the reader menu with a tap in the center of the page
- Use the 1 page / 2 pages chips under the page counter
- Works with horizontal, vertical, and free-gesture navigation modes
- Your choice is saved globally — it stays on when you open another comic or restart the app
- Guided View still uses one page at a time; your two-page preference returns when you turn Guided off
Lock screen orientation
Accidental rotations while reading? In the reader menu (tap the center of the page), open the ⋮ menu top right and turn on Lock orientation to freeze portrait or landscape.
- Locks to your current orientation when enabled
- Only active while you are in the reader — the rest of the app rotates normally
- Your choice is saved globally across comics
Trim scan borders
Scanned comics often ship with thick white or black margins. In the reader menu (tap the center of the page), enable Trim page borders to zoom into the artwork automatically.
- Works in normal reading and in two-page spread mode (per page)
- Pinch and double-tap still work; double-tap returns to the trimmed fit
- Guided View uses the same trim on page fit; hold to peek the full page
- Your choice is saved globally across comics
AniList & MyAnimeList tracking
Read local manga and keep your online list in sync. Connect AniList and/or MyAnimeList under Settings → Tracking, link a series when prompted, and chapter progress updates when you leave the reader.
- OAuth sign-in in the browser; MAL uses the Android PKCE flow (no client secret in the app)
- Search sheet to pick the right manga; optional link for the whole series on device
- Sync to AniList, MAL, or both — toggles for auto-update on exit and confirmation snackbars
Smarter refresh
Pull-to-refresh on a Komga profile now:
- Refreshes the server library list (names, availability)
- Scans the active tab first (what you see)
- Gradually refreshes other linked tabs in the background when their data is stale
If a library disappears on the server, its tab is marked Unavailable; comics you already downloaded stay on your device.
Also in this release
- In-app What's New for 1.6 (replay in Settings → More → What's New)
- Backup/restore: server profile stores linked library ids and active tab (credentials still re-entered after restore, as before)
- Stability improvements and bug fixes
