Apex Comics 1.7.0 Release notes

Hey everyone,

1.7.0 brings two big themes together: Komga users get read status, ComicInfo metadata, and Webtoon reading — and everyone gets a smoother path through large libraries (resume where you left off, chain issues at the end of a comic, series stacks instead of endless scrolling).

Webtoon scroll reading mode

A fourth navigation mode joins Horizontal, Vertical, and Dual: Webtoon. Pages stack vertically for continuous scrolling — ideal for webtoons and long strips.

Cycle modes from the reader menu (tap the center of the page)
Pinch to zoom on the visible page only
Two-page spread is disabled while Webtoon is active (your spread preference is kept)
Guided View (Premium): panel-by-panel, then scrolls to the next page automatically

Komga read status import (Premium)

When you connect or rescan a Komga library with Premium, Apex now imports your existing read / in-progress state from the server during the library scan.

Uses Komga's native read-progress (the same data as marking books read in Komga's UI)
Also stays compatible with Readium progression while reading — newest timestamp wins
Mark as read / unread in Apex pushes back to Komga (Premium)
No extra API call per book on import — progress rides along the paginated book list

If everything still shows unread after upgrading, run a library refresh while Premium is active, or open Settings → Libraries and rescan the Komga tab.

Richer metadata (ComicInfo via Komga)

Tags you applied with ComicTagger and metadata Komga already stores are surfaced in Apex:

Issue detail sheet — synopsis, writers/artists, publisher, release date (menu → Details, or optional setting below)
Series stack sheet — publisher, series status, creator line, summary when available
Series descriptions are cached on device; Komga series API is called only when needed
Comic Vine Enrich remains available when you want catalog extras

Issue details before reading (optional)

Prefer a metadata card before the reader? In Settings → Library, enable Issue details before reading. Tapping an issue opens its detail sheet first; tap Read to start. Default behaviour is unchanged (tap opens the reader).

Spot missing issue numbers

Open a series stack and Apex highlights gaps between the issues you own — for example you have #1, #2, and #4, and it flags #3.

Continue reading on your library

Right under the stats hero, a new Continue reading card shows your in-progress comic with cover art, page progress, and a play button. One tap opens the reader at the right page — no hunting through sections.

A–Z drag index

When your library list scrolls, a letter rail appears on the right — drag it to jump by series name, like a contacts app.

Series stacks & smart sections — works out of the box (already A–Z); collapsed series jump to the section header
Flat catalogue — use Sort → A–Z; Favorites / In progress / Completed stay at the top
Animated bubble, haptic ticks, and ripple on the rail; hidden during search

Series stacks & a tidier library

Large libraries are easier to scan:

Series stacks — switch from the library Sort menu (View → Series stacks): one card per series instead of hundreds of covers in the main list. Also in Settings → Library.
Collapsed series sections — in “All issues” view, series start collapsed; open one at a time (your choice is remembered)
Sort by issue number — new option in the Sort menu for reading order within series
Large library? banner — suggests Series stacks when you have 50+ books (dismiss anytime)

Faster library refresh

Large libraries no longer pay the full indexing cost on every pull-to-refresh — on Komga, local folders, and cloud drives (Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.).

Komga — unchanged books skip metadata remap and cover redownloads; Premium progress import still runs from the list payload
Local & cloud SAF — unchanged archives skip copy, parse, and cover extraction; no per-file UI events during refresh
Listing still walks the full library (API or SAF tree) so new issues and removals are detected
Typical case: one new volume added → one full process instead of thousands

Redesigned Settings

Settings are easier to scan and match how Android system settings work:

Hub navigation — a grouped list on the root screen (App, Data & sync, About); tap a row to open its detail page, back returns to the hub
Eight focused categories — General, Library, Reader, Storage, Notifications, Tracking, Translation (when enabled), and About
Clearer grouping — library appearance and scanning live under Library; cache, cloud, backup, and cleanup under Storage; keep screen on moved to Reader
Glass-style cards — settings panels and library series rows use semi-transparent surfaces with subtle borders instead of heavy opaque blocks, so the dark theme feels lighter and more modern

Series stacks respect your grid column count from Settings
Issue order inside a series section follows issue numbers, not date added
Stability fixes around Komga sync error reporting
Unit tests for Komga progress merge logic, incremental library scan, series navigation, and library A–Z index anchors
