Apex Comics 1.9.0: Foldable reading, Binge & multi-device sync
Hey everyone,
1.9.0 is a big step for foldable phones: dual-page reading respects the hinge, and the library stays with you when you fold or unfold. It also adds Binge to chain issues in a series, multi-device sync for Premium, and a dedicated Manga catalog beside weekly Comics in Discovery.
Foldable phones
Apex now treats foldables as first-class reading devices, not just wide tablets.
- Dual-page mode keeps a real gap at the hinge so panels stay readable across the fold
- Open a series, then fold or unfold: your selection stays; the layout adapts (pane, sheet, or full screen)
- Library master-detail aligns to the hinge on the inner display (list | hinge | detail)
- Your 1-page / 2-page preference is preserved; compact cover mode still shows a single page
- Smoother unfold: memory and page preloading ease briefly when the screen opens wide
Binge (series runs)
- On a series detail, a segmented control: Read / Continue, or Binge
- Binge auto-opens the next issue in the same series when you finish (unread run, or full reread when everything is already read)
- Pre-loads the next local archive earlier so the chain stays smooth
- On the first page, swipe back to reopen the previous issue in the run
- Leave the reader anytime to stop; no interstitial screens between issues
- Multi-select issues in series detail to Binge only the ones you picked
Multi-device sync (Premium)
- Settings → Storage → Devices: link a shared cloud folder on each device
- One shared sync state in your cloud folder keeps progress, favorites, libraries and stats aligned
- Designed for one device at a time; sync before switching to share your latest data with your other devices
- Open the app to pull when another device wrote newer data; Sync now pulls or pushes accordingly
- Dated daily / weekly / monthly backups are for recovery. Restore replaces this device only
- Works with Drive, OneDrive, Nextcloud, and other SAF folders. No Apex account
Manga Discovery (Premium)
- Comics and Manga stay in separate catalogs (never mixed in one list)
- Compact Comics | Manga switch in Discovery
- Publishing now, recently started, and followed manga sections
- Filter chips for type (Manga, Manhwa, Manhua) and popular magazines
- Search manga titles, open details, follow series locally
- Match titles against your library to read locally when you already own the book
Reader page fit
- Fit control next to ⋮ opens a clear list: Auto, Fit page, Fit width, or Fit height
- Auto picks width or height from the page shape (default); no more fill / cycle / icon-only picker
- Fit width and height only pin to the top or side when the page actually overflows
- Hidden in dual-page mode; your choice is saved across sessions
Tablet series browser
- On large screens, browse the library full-width until you open a series stack
- A detail pane then reveals beside the list (no empty half-screen)
- Back closes the pane; works for local libraries and Komga alike
X-Ray panel refresh
- Glass side panel with soft scrim and smoother open/close motion
- Clearer character rows and a richer character dossier layout
